| UPY 594 pushes a
row of doublestack cars into the UP yard that runs near Airport Way
South, through Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood. 594 is
thought to be the former Missouri Pacific 1594, a 1500hp road
switcher that was purchased along with 129 others before the MP was
merged into the UP in the 1980s. It still carries the same
style horns on the top of the cab that can be seen on GP15s from the
late 1970s. This unit can also be operated by radio control.
Union Pacific started
using UPY as a "road mark" when they ran out of space with the "UP"
mark; locomotives are typically two, three, and four digit numbers,
while the cars they haul use five digits. UPY units most often
work the freight yards.
